"You'll never win anything with kids" the very infamous phrase by Alan Hansen proved to be right; as the gunner moved out from their title bid. For a major part of the season the Wenger squad relished the top spot in the BPL, the whole scenario ended in a bitter outcome, after a series of failures in the month of march. Hansen phrase which marked the defeat of Manutd to Aston Villa back in the 1995/96 season when united sold there high profile player, with big names Hughes, Ince and Kanchelskis in the list. But United hit back with a squad deployed with some of there terrific self groomed boys; as they went on winning the Cup and the League in the same season. The same scenario might would have been repeated at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal academy players and Wenger string of cheap purchases from the summer transfer window.
From the start of the season it seems that the Hyper squad strengthening of the EPL giants which pulled in some big stars in their squad will leave little ground for Arsenal to carry themselves to the top draw. United and Liverpool were among the teams who splashed heavily on summer transfers, mounting their team value in over hundred's of million ... while on the other side Arsenal was low in their budget and squad value.
Tables turned and what predicted comes out to be totally incorrect in the first phase of the season with Arsenal leading the charts leaving United and Chelsea behind; once again the Hansen phrase was going to be denied by the exuberance of young guns. The Arsenal campaign went on smoothly, what Sir Alex had achieved was going in well for Wenger this season with some minor hitches; Tottenham battered Gunner's in their lunge to Carling Cup ... Adebayor and Bendtner clashed with each other.
The real frustrating time was the month of march where a series of decision made against Arsenal hunted their BPL title campaign; which ended in a great sorrow at Old Trafford where Arsenal was beaten up by 2-1. Critics said that the squad was not strong mentally and was incapable of handling pressure at the end. The major impact that a captain deliver's to his team was missing from the armband of William Gallas; the guy couldn't even cope up with his frustration level on the field which he showed when he moved to the other half of the pitch following an incident. Gallas never talked or organized to the team when it comes to defending set pieces ... when it mattered the most in the pressure situations. The injury to Eduardo against Birmingham too was a blow for Arsenal; he was settling in well, scored in many crucial arsenal games that he played, surely arsenal missed him at the end. When it comes to the squad rotation and backup's the quality on the bench was not as good that other's have; United this season showed the quality and depth of their squad which parried their injury vows. The bench strength proves out to be a major worry for the Gunners.
The Heroic effort of the Arsenal young guns ended in a major disappointment regarding BPL and the failure in ECL; their is nothing for Arsene to reward his squad ... the gaffer eyes the second spot, which seems to be the only option left. The untimely hero's played to their heart out this season, the breath taking move's and passes of Arsenal which pulls accolades even from their rivals, will be passing their gestation period as they take on the next season.
